Deadline for applications: 3pm, Monday 12th August

Summary

We’re looking for volunteers to assist with our weekly creative youth groups for neurodivergent young people, running between November 2024 to March 2025, with training in September.

We’re running 12-session creative groups for neurodivergent girls and young people who are gender non-conforming. It's for young people living in Bristol aged between 11-16.

Through the groups, we're aiming to re-build the wellbeing of young people who want to spend more time outside their home but find it difficult because of anxiety.

You'll assist the facilitator team with supporting young people and taking part in young person-led creative activities, eg drawing, painting, writing, making slime, zines, jewellery and crafting, board games, music... whatever takes their fancy!

We'll be running two groups per week (on Tuesday and Thurs evenings), and you can choose to take part in one or both of these. The groups will be in St Pauls, Bristol.

Weekly time commitment per group:

  • Time in the sessions and some admin/planning time: approx 4 hours per week.

  • Some additional training and reflection sessions throughout the programme: approx 8 hours total.

  • NeonDaisy will reimburse your travel and sustenance costs on a weekly basis up to a maximum of £20 per group session.

Reporting to: Lead group facilitators

What’s in it for you?

  • Help an autistic young person feel less isolated and more connected with others

  • Spend time and learn in a team of friendly neurodivergent adults in a space of belonging and acceptance

What you'll do

  • Take part in training (September 2024)

  • Assist with 12 x weekly creative youth groups between 11 November to 10 February (term time only) on either/both Tuesday and Thursday evenings (approx 6-8pm)

  • Help team to set up and pack down the space at the end of sessions

  • Participate in reflection sessions with other facilitators during the programme

  • Engage with young people to understand their needs and interests

  • Maintain positive relationships with parents/carers at drop off and pick up times

  • Be an active role model throughout sessions to signal to young people that it’s a safe place to be autonomous and self-advocate

  • Work within the policies and procedures of NeonDaisy and promote NeonDaisy’s neuro-affirmative ethos in all sessions

  • Understand and adhere to our safeguarding and health and safety policies.

About you

To make sure our team of facilitators is representative of participants, we’re only inviting applications from women and people who are gender non-conforming.

We also particularly invite applications from people who identify as neurodivergent, in particular those who are autistic and/or have ADHD (no diagnosis necessary).

You should also be able to commit to the whole programme.

You will:

  • Have some knowledge or experience spending time with autistic young people, whether that's professional experience or through personal relationships.

  • Be enthusiastic, flexible, reliable and curious

  • Be a good communicator

  • Be happy to work in a team and respond to feedback and guidance as needed.

  • Be committed to the safeguarding and the promotion of the welfare of children

  • Have the ability to travel to the venue St Pauls, Bristol
